Prof. Naresh Bhatnagar

               IIT-Delhi

Dr. Naresh Bhatnagar is currently working as a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Delhi. Professor Naresh Bhatnagar and his team lead a decade-long research and development of novel Dental Implants. They have developed multiple designs based on minimum stress generation (optimized using FEM analysis) for various dimensions and shapes and manufactured using state of the art ten axis precision CNC machining. Along with making dental implants, Prof Naresh also developed surgical and prosthetic accessories for doing the surgical procedures thereby enabling replacement of a missing tooth or the entire arch and complete restoration. They have generated multiple Indian and PCT patents on this topic and it has been funded by prestigious CSIR-NMITLI (New Millennium Indian Technology Leadership Initiative) program. Developing a human implant is a challenging task as safety and biological efficacy needs to be established in vitro, followed by an animal model and finally human testing. After successful animal and Phase 1 clinical trials at Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences, the project is nearing completion of Phase 2 large clinical trials. This is a unique achievement for IIT Delhi and India to develop a medical product technology from scratch.

His research work is focused in the areas of FRP Composite materials, Processing and Manufacturing, Injection Molding, Biomaterials. He has published more than 93 papers in reputed journals.

Prof. Naresh Bhatnagar of Mechanical Engineering Department has been felicitated with the 7th National Award for Technology Innovation under the category of "Polymers in Public Health Care" of Petrochemicals and Downstream Plastic Processing Industry (2016-17), constituted by the Government of India, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers. He shares the prize with his PhD student Dr K K Gaur, currently serving as a Scientist E in Defence Research and Development Organi sation (DRDO)Hq, Delhi.
